Learn the fundamentals of art - line, value, form, shape & composition - to provide a structure for the creative impulse to build upon and grow, allowing a greater vocabulary for self-expression. Non-traditional drawing tasks will stimulate the imagination as well as demonstrate these basic concepts. For beginners & those with experience.

THE ARTIST’S WAY: A CREATIVITY WORKSHOP (Session I) – with PAT OTTO
(Re)-discover your own creative gifts, in whatever form they may take, be it through painting, pottery, performing, poetry, or prose. Loosely based on Julia Cameron’s book, The Artist’s Way, we will touch on the first six chapters/concepts of the book to gain a deeper understanding and experience of your own unique creative process as reflected in your life and in your art expressions. Come and enliven your creative spirit through readings, writings, art making, observations, & discussion.

Nurture your creative spirit, explore materials and artistic themes, develop technical skills or use your art process for relaxation and wellness in the company of other creative women. Class will also include a variety of writing activities for those who wish to use them to stimulate imagination and insight. Fee includes basic studio materials. Bring water-based paints of your choice, or other favorite materials, embellishments, ideas or just yourself! No art experience necessary!

PAINTING FOR SELF-EXPRESSION: MATERIALS & IMAGE EXPLORATION – Increase your ability to access your imagination while strengthening self-expressive and technical skills. Dreams, emotions, memories, direct observation and spontaneous art exercises will be used to activate a dynamic painting process. Fee includes basic papers, tempera and watercolor paints; for those who wish to use them, bring acrylics, canvas or other painting surfaces. No experience necessary!

Creating Mandalas for Meditation & Insight

Jung viewed the mandala as a symbol of the urge to seek wholeness and fulfill our potential. Painting mandalas can evoke a deep, meditative state and access spontaneous imagery to enhance insight. In this workshop participants will be introduced briefly to the use of mandalas as a spiritual tool across cultures and create a personal mandala using simple painting methods or other expressive arts techniques to increase their ability to use art in a contemplative manner. All supplies included.

Introduction to Creative Drawing

Do you ever wish you had stronger technical skills to bring to your creative process? This is the class for you! Art therapist and drawing instructor Pat Otto provides a structure for the creative impulse to build upon and grow, teaching a greater vocabulary for self-expression by guiding participants through exercises on the basic fundamentals of art (such as line, value, form, shape, composition). Non-traditional, meditative drawing tasks are given to stimulate the imagination as well as demonstrate the basic concepts. For beginners and those with experience in the creative arts.
